A great read, with some action. The ending was good too.
I don't read a lot of fantasy novels but this is a very good read. A.J. Martinez's 'Fall of a Demigod' brings you into a world inhabited by humans and Effeelions, the latter of which is guarded by a demigod known as Caim. He was originally human then becomes a demigod after swearing an oath to protect the Effeelions. But being formerly human leaves Caim with human desires leading him to fall in love with a human woman which has dire consequences for both him and the Effeelions.
A.J. Martinez's gripping style of story-telling draws you into the novel. He craftily details various aspects of Caim's world and complex emotions which are the crux of the story. This becomes apparent in Caim's struggle with the story's villain Jairo, a worthy adversary attacking Caim's human emotions and desires.
Overall, this is an enjoyable read to anyone who loves fantasy worlds. The beauty of this book is it combines a fantasy world plus a love story.

This short story is a good read for fantasy and Myth lovers alike. Aside from a few minor grammatical and spelling errors (The only reason for the missing star) that sometimes detract, you will find that this story of love and loyalty finds a special place in your heart.
Anyone who likes a good fantasy novel will devour every page of AJ Martinez’s ‘Fall of a Demigod’. It starts fast—read the first few pages and see how the book powerfully reels you in—and never lets go until you’re reluctantly turning the last few pages. The upside to this short tale Martinez has other writings you can enjoy.
At the heart of the ‘Fall of a Demigod’ is Caim, whose oath it is to aid the Effeelions in their quest. Being a demigod, however, means Caim is half-human—and eventually, his human desires become so compelling that Caim is powerless to resist them. How Caim struggles over his human half and how he marshalls his personal resources just to keep his oath with the Effeelions is a breathtaking story arcthat masterfully unravels, thanks to Martinez’s seasoned writing.
Overall, ‘Fall of a Demigod’ is a great-to-the-last-page kind of fantasy book—fans of the genre will not be disappointed. Martinez has the steady hand and seasoned literary gift of an author with genuine talent. He can communicate nuance like only a few could. Five stars for this one.

This book is really really good! The back of the book says that this is Mr. Martinez' first romance. Great job! You should write more of these.
I intended to give the book a quick look to get the idea of what to expect. I wound up reading the book cover to cover (it's short-about 86 pages or so). It grabbed me right away and held me til the end.There was action a plenty, but it is ultimately a love story.
I don't usually read "romance novels", don't get me wrong, I like romance as a part of a story. I just prefer it be a part of the larger story, not the main focus. In Fall of a Demigod there is no doubt the love story is the main focus. But the author wove the action in so skillfully that I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
I read and reviewed another of Mr. Martinez' books and was pretty harsh on the editing so I was a little nervous about how Fall of a Demigod would read. Well... there were a few problems here and there, but they did not interfere with the story at all. A smooth, fast-paced read.
Mr. Martinez has demonstrated what a great storyteller he is. I recommend this book to romance and/or action readers, you won't be disappointed.
